Former ICT Founder Bing Ho launches DHSC

Bing Ho, prior ICT student leader, now at Duke University, has dedicated numerous hours to establishing a health science based student STEM training program to parallel the ICT effort: Duke Health and STEM Connect (DHSC)

The purpose DHSC: We offer a program to middle and high schoolers within the Durham community that introduces them to topics and issues in the fields of STEM through the lenses of health and medicine. The team will accomplish this by integrating material taught in their core classes (AP/IB/accelerated) into interactive teaching sessions, ultimately applying typical classroom knowledge (i.e. biology classes) to examples relevant to the students’ lives. Additionally, we aim to enrich and build upon the material taught in class as well as expand their views on the opportunities available in health fields and inviting them to take advantages of the resources present at Duke through hands-on activities and events including, but not limited to, field trips through the Duke Forest, scheduled running groups, and cooking classes at the Brodhead Center. This sustained commitment is in the hopes that their knowledge does not remain a stagnant part of the classroom, but rather becomes an integral part of their personal lifestyle, and furthermore a new perspective of everyday life.
